These patented technologies permit safe retreat from a completed felling or, for that matter, any cut. Chain free-wheeling is stopped to enhance safety for the cutter as well as others in the area.

Bar integrated braking can eliminate the band brake to trim both cost and weight while providing full time control. Self energized braking utilizes chain momentum to apply the brake.

Several implementations are possible. Two methods, Brake-in-Time as well as Side Step™, use the cutter bar for bar integrated braking while one strategy, Clutch-in-Time, uses a novel 3D clutch.
